Many of you will have seen the publicity surrounding the new route to the Fellowship in Dental Surgery without Examination. The FDS RCS(Ed) is now open to holders of Specialty Dental Membership Qualifications of any of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons.

In November, the Dental Faculty presented the first educational Roadshow event to support foundation training
Held at the Leeds Marriott Hotel for the Yorkshire Deanery trainees, the day was organised and hosted by Brian Nattress, RCSEd Regional Dental Adviser (RDA), and was attended by over 90 recent dental graduates from across the country.
This was the first of what is hoped to be many more UK-wide events to help Dental Foundation trainees.

Monday 17 December saw both the Dean and Vice Dean attend the University of Glasgow to launch the Glasgow Dental Attributes Week at the university’s Dental Hospital.
Vice Dean, Mr Rob Chate, delivered the first presentation on the Faculty’s entry-level diploma, the MFDS RCSEd, as well as covering the range of professional development opportunities available through the College. Emphasis was made on the benefits of affiliating to a Dental Faculty such as ours that incorporates and represents all grades and members of the whole dental team from the outset of their careers. In contrast, a comparison with our main rival sister College was made, where after six years of gaining an MJDF RCSEng diploma, individuals are required to choose whether to affiliate to either a secondary care/academic faculty or a faculty for general dental practitioners.
